Congratulation to Al McCune from the Hawkeye Fire Department for being voted the 2021 Instructor of the Year. Al is also a Training Specialist 1 for the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau.

Congratulations to Roger Carr for being the recipient of the 2010 Instructor of the Year! Roger has been on the Waterloo Fire Department for 22 years and has more than 30 years of teaching experience, including teaching at the State Fire School in the PITS when the PITS were still in use. Roger was nominated by his peers and a few of the comments include:
"Roger works hard and is a real inspiration to other instructors. I admire the work he has done over many, many years of great service."
"I hope someday I will and can live up to everything he has accomplished."

“I couldn’t imagine when I went into this all those years ago that it would have lead me to this weekend,” said John Ballou after receiving the prestigious honor of Instructor of the Year for the Iowa Society of Fire Service Instructors at their annual conference in Ames, Iowa on November 20, 2009. John has been a volunteer fire fighter for the Audubon Fire Department since 1973, and a field instructor with the Fire Service Training Bureau for over thirty years. Working as a FSTB field instructor, John has taught hundreds of classes and been a lead instructor for the FSTB Interior Fire Attack Simulator (a mobile training prop used for training firefighters statewide). John has earned the respect of his peers and is considered to be a guru in teaching the essential skills needed for becoming a firefighter.
